How to have a Legal Jail Wedding

In order to have a legal, valid jail marriage in the State of California a few steps must be followed:

  1. The notary and the minister must be two different people.
  2. A ceremony with both the bride and groom present must be performed.
  3. A marriage license must be purchased from the County Recorder.

Your jail marriage is invalid if:

  1. Your wedding ceremony was performed over the phone.
  2. The minister signed off on your marriage license without performing a ceremony.
  3. The notary and the minister are the same person.
  4. A marriage license is not purchased from or recorded with the County Recorder.

The Document Diva provides legal jail wedding services to the county jails in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino. More information can be obtained at (888) 229-8452.

Pitchess Detention Center Opens to the Public

A special fundraising event is being held at Pitchess Detention Center (Wayside) on August 7, 2010. The event will benefit the Hope Gardens Family Center on Sylmar, a transitional living and housing facility for homeless women and children, with a portion of the $75 tickets going to the center.

Beginning at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center at 5p.m., “A Night at the Rancho at Wayside” will take a historic look back in time from the years when pigs and cattle were a part of daily activities to today’s more modern operation with its massive generator and laundry plants cleaning jumpsuits and linens for the entire Los Angeles County jail system.

The tour will include a view of education-based rehabilitation

services and a walk-about in East Facility and the weapons training area, once used to film “S.W.A.T.” starring Samuel L. Jackson.

Members of the public who are interested in the event at Pitchess Detention Center may call Sergeant Gerri L. McCorkle at (661) 294-6355 or glmccork@lasd.orgglmccork@lasd.

"Grim Sleeper" Suspect Held @ Men's Central Jail

Lonnie D. Franklin Jr., the suspected Grim Sleeper serial murder suspect, is being held at Los Angeles County's Men's Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles. Franklin is a "K-10" or "high-powered" inmate which means he is kept away from the general prison population because of the notoriety of his alleged crimes.

He was attacked in court on Friday, July 9th by convicted murderer Antonio Rodriguez who may have been trying to earn credibility points with other inmates according to his attorney.
